Kokein has been a driving force in the Basque music scene for 25 years. Founded in Eibar in 1999, the band began its journey singing exclusively in Euskara (Basque Language). In the quarter-century since, Kokein has built a strong family around their music, touring extensively across the Basque Country, Catalonia, Spain, and even Japan.
Rock is Kokein's core, but their music is defined by a passionate refusal to stand still. Their albums blend rock with varied styles—sometimes atmospheric, sometimes more danceable—always forging a distinctive Kokein sound and identity.
The current quintet features Zaloa (vocals), Iker (guitar), Edu (bass), Jatsu (guitar), and Lete (drums). They have released eight albums over their career, constantly exploring new sonic territories while staying true to their rock essence. Kokein is renowned for their energetic, high-quality live performances—dynamic and passionate shows that are a powerful culmination of their years on the road.
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Kokein released their latest work, "Bidea Da Helmuga," (The Path is the Destination) in December 2024. This special album features five brand-new songs alongside five unique covers of Kokein tracks by musician friends, including Zea Mays, Miren Narbaiza, Ander Mujika, Joseba Baleztena, Mursego, Eraso! and Nakar. The record captures the characteristic sensitivity and strength that defines the band both on stage and in the studio.
